Mid-Season Rest Week

After the Steamboat Half Marathon, my body was sore. Like really f’ing sore. More sore than I have been in a long time. More sore than after St. George 70.3. This told me something. This told me, my body is trying to tell me that you need rest. You need to get a massage. And you need to really let your body recover. I have been training hard since the New Year, and I have had a lot of break through workouts, but now my body has been starting to break down, and my workouts are declining. That tells me I needed some time off. I have a long season ahead of me, with Santa Cruz 70.3 in September and the Chicago Marathon in October. So, I decided to take a whole week off, eat whatever the f I wanted, and do NOTHING, besides go to work. :)

No wonder my body was screaming at me though, I had raced St. George 70.3, then hiked Zion the next day, and then did two half marathons back to back. I never took any time off, besides a rest day here and there, but I never truly let my body and mind recover. So, it was time…

Here’s how I spent my extra time…

I saw a Life Coach. Most people keep this stuff personal, but hell, I think Life Coaching and Therapy are AWESOME! I’m all about it. Life is tough, and we all could use a little guidance. Yes, our friends and family are great for that, but I love getting an outsider’s point of view. I feel great about my life, honestly, but there are some areas I want to work on, so I thought, hell why not seek out some professional advice.

I got a massage. Damn, my body needed that.

I ate froyo.

I got this awesome surprise present in the mail from my sister. She knows me so well. I’m so excited about this little book:

I slept a lot. I slept probably 8-10hrs a night. And took a 2 1/2hr nap on Saturday. Yup. My body clearly was tired.

I went to Interactive Day San Diego and learned a ton from experts in the digital marketing sphere. It was really rewarding and I’m so thankful to have been given the opportunity to go from the company I work for, IMI.

While I was there I saw a psychic…man this woman was good. Fun fact, I LOVE astrology. Like LOVE it. I take everything with a grain of salt, but I truly believe in energy, and I believe a lot of astrology holds a lot of truth. Anyway, she was very intuitive, and I learned a lot. Have you ever seen a psychic? What was your experience?

I ate A LOT of Mexican. I mean A LOT. I LOVE mexican. Tacos. Burritos. Taco Salads. You name it. If I had to choose a cuisine to eat for the rest of my life, it would probably be Mexican.

I had brunch at my favorite spot, Naked Café.

I watched ALL of the new season of Orange is the New Black. No spoilers here, but if you haven’t watched any yet, get ready for an emotional season. Seriously. Super emotional. But, in a good way.

And now that I have gained probably 7lbs in 7 days. haha. Who knows, I haven’t gotten on the scale, but I definitely feel that way. I had at least 4 Lindor Chocolate balls every day, too. I really let myself indulge and sleep, and be a lazy bum. Now, it’s time to shred the fat, and get back down to race weight, and get after it! Yes, this is how I maintain balance. For me, I need time off. I need time to veg out, and eat whatever I want. I’m an all or nothing person. So, now that I have had some time to rejuvenate, I’m excited to get back after it tomorrow! :)

There’s just something about routine, and then breaking routine, routine, and then breaking routine. I think I’m addicted to the cycle. I just love it.

Hope everyone had a great week! I know a lot of you were out racing, so I hope you had an awesome race! Here’s to get back after it!

xoxo!
